He was predeceased by: his parents, Houston Gay and Mauline Lott; his wife Kathleen Russo Gay; and his brothers, Fred Gay, Hubert Gay, Lewis Gay, Buford Gay of Robert Gay, B. J and A. J. Gay.
He is survived by: his daughter Meredith Gay Waltemyer (Cory); his grandchildren, Mason Calico, Hayden Calico, Easton Waltemyer and Meadow Waltemyer; and his siblings, Houston Gay, Jr., Lanita Thomas and Brenda Coyle. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
A graveside service was held on Monday, October 7th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery (34888 Grantham College Rd, Slidell, LA 70460).
