He was predeceased by: his former wife Glenda Gilmore Whitten; his son Dennie Guy Whitten; his sisters, Johnnie Whittington and JoAnn Meredith; and his siblings-in-law, H. R. "Sonny" Whittington and Jackie Gilmore.
He is survived by: his wife Norma Whitten; his daughter Johnnie Faye McCoy; his stepdaughter Melba Powe (David); his grandchildren, Jessica Revels (Scott), Mac McCoy (Vin) and J. C. McCoy; his stepgrandchildren, Kim Humphries, Josh Humphries and Jordan Humphries (Amanda); his great grandchildren, Scarlett Revels, Jackson Revels, Roslynn McCoy, Madelyn McCoy and Whitlynn McCoy; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Dylan Blackwell, Jenna and Wyatt Humphries; his brother Godfrey Whitten (Jean); and his brothers-in-law, Oliver Meredith and Charles Gilmore. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
