He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucien Berteau and Loney Berteau; and his siblings, Betty "Sis" Berteau Carmody, Jewel Berteau Banning, Lucien James "L. J." Berteau Jr., Clyde Paul Berteau, Clarence Joseph Berteau and Thomas "Tommy" Berteau.

He is survived by: his wife Beryle Ramsey Berteau; his children, Catherine Berteau, Denise Berteau Finley, Frances Berteau and Daniel Berteau; and his stepchildren, Stephanie Sabetta, Stacie Ramsey and Donald Ramsey. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
