He was predeceased by: his parents, J. W. McDonald and Mildred Grice McDonald; and his son Jonathan Edward McDonald. He is survived by: his wife Tonya Johnson; his son J. W. McDonald III (Tiuana Hawn McDonald); his grandchildren, Bailey and James Edward; and his siblings, Diedre McDonald Guy and Grice McDonald. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
