He was predeceased by: his son Joseph "Joe" Morales; his parents, Gilbert Besson Sr. and Lydia Clause; and his siblings, Gilbert, David "Pitter" Besson, Edward Besson Sr., Rosamay "Rosie" Jones and Mary Louise "Susie" Dupre.
He is survived by: his wife Linda T. Besson; his children, Cletus Besson (Wanda), John Besson (Donna), Rebecca McCarthy (Carl "Coonie" Hebert) and Phyllis Boudreaux (Chris); and his siblings, Huey "Johnnie" Besson, Barbara "Bobbie" Cooley and Carrie Bourgeois. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
