He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia "Pat" Mathies; his son Joseph V. Mathies, Jr (Belinda); and his brother William Mathies Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Donald A. Mathies (Patty), Karen M. Kety (Temo), Barbara Mathies and Betty Mathies; his grandchildren, Daniel Mathies (Colleen), Marc Mathies, Ryan Mathies, Cyrus Kety, Marcus Kety, Jonas Kety, Lisa M. Hernandez (David) and April M. Szalajeski (Dana); his great grandchildren, Illyana Hernandez, Olivia Hernandez and Aeryn Hernandez; and his siblings, Frances Mathies Ruggiero and Lionel Mathies. He is also survived by numerous foster children and foster grandchildren.
