He was predeceased by: his parents, Lunnie Barnes and Lillie Richards Barnes; his children, Gary Kohnell Barnes and Thersea Marteal Barnes; and his siblings, Chrystelle Brannon, Ernestine Jones, Pomelia "Barney" Barnes, Rhett Barnes and Durell Barnes.
He is survived by: his pets, Rambo and Buddy; his wife Kathy McGowan Barnes of Ferriday, LA; his daughter Katrina Currie (Ray) of Opp, AL; his stepdaughters, Cyndee Larsen (Richard) of Brazoria, TX, Tammy Moore of Crestview, FL and Crystal Rodriguez (Rudy) of Vidalia, LA; and his grandsons, Jonathan Currie (Christy), Dustin Larsen, Darren Larsen (Brooke), Derek Larsen (Rebecca), Austin Moore and Christopher Schiele. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He attended church regularly up until March 2020 when the pandemic forced him to stay home for his safety.
