He was predeceased by: his wife Stephanie LeJeune Cortez; his son Joel Cortez; his parents, L. D. Cortez and Erma Reed Cortez; and his sister Deanna Cortez.
He is survived by: his children, Joey Cortez (Briseida), Roger Cortez, II (Kylie), Carmen Cortez (Melissa), Ashley Fontenot (Roland, Jr.), Kathryn Sias (Clint) and Melanie Cortez; and his siblings, Lelan Cortez, Wade Cortez and Carolyn Breaux. He is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
