He was predeceased by: his siblings, Joseph Harrell Elston, Robert Douglas Elston, Sarah E. Brupbacher and Evelyn E. Johnson; his wife Dolores; and his son Rex Anthony Elston.

He is survived by: his child David Moore Elston, Jr.; his wife Lynn; his grandchildren, Crystal Elston, Kelly Elston, Kevin Elston, Thomas Elston, Kathryn Elston, Jim Carson, Cody Carson and John Carson; his great grandchildren, Khloe, James and Eli; and also, Jonathan Dudley Elston (Stacey) and Karen Carson (Jim).
