He was predeceased by: his wife Ruby Willbanks Bowers; his parents, Andrew J. Bowers and Olivia Rigaud Bowers; his stepmother Mercedes Bowers; his siblings, Odette "Detsy" Bowers Prest, Hansel Bowers, Sr. and Lucy Bowers David; and his granddaughter Tammy Bowers.

He is survived by: his children, Jane Bowers Mahon (late Joseph Mahon, Sr.), Rene S. Bowers, Jr. (Linda), Dean Bowers, Sr. (Eugena), Sylve Bowers Tvrdeic (Roko), Diane Bowers Chedville (Kevin) and Curtis Bowers (Eva); his brother Emile Bowers; and his grandchildren, Tricia Wilson, Shane Mahon, Nicole Willis, Desiree Pearce, Janna Ladner, Joseph Mahon, Jr., Lizanne Woods, Chris Bowers, Dean Bowers, Jr., Julie Bowers, Dominica Tvrdeic Galloway, Roko Tvrdeic, Jr., Nichols Chedville, Simon Bowers and Andrew Bowers. He is also survived by 25 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to OLPH Catholic Church, Belle Chasse, Any Veteran Association, or American Heart Association.
