He was predeceased by: his parents, James Burgess and Lucy Johnson Burgess; his brothers, Bob, Rafil and Ray Burgess; and his daughter-in-law Becky Burgess.

He is survived by: his wife Jimmie Marie Burgess; his children, Kevin Burgess of DeQuincy and Regina "Sissy" Aucoin (Will) of Hackberry; his grandchildren, Liddy Ann Johnson, Shelbi LeDay (Jamie), Sydni Burgess, Jeffrey Moore (Bethany), Nickalus Moore and Austin Moore (Ashley); and his brother Ronnie Burgess. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
