He is survived by: his wife Joan Stodghill Southern; his brother-in-law John Stodghill; his daughters, Nicole Southern (Kevin) and Michelle Southern Plumlee (Daniel); his grandsons, Stephen "Henry" Crawford II and Jeffrey Plumlee; his daughter Melissa Gobert Wiersema; his grandchildren, Colby Wiersema (Morghan), Connor Wiersema, Cooper Wiersema and Courtney Wiersema; his great grandchild Wesley Wiersema; his son Jason Gobert (Meadow); his grandchildren, Scout Gobert and Harlow Gobert; his sister Lynn Norman (Kyle); his niece Brittany Norman Narutowicz (Michael); his sister Faye Wood; and his nieces and nephews, Monnie Wood (Traci), Wesley Wood (Ann), Stan Southern (Kimberly), Chris Southern, Robin Bowles (Don) and Dawn Wood (Ed).
His contributions to the academic community at LSU were immeasurable, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
