He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Hartwell and Evelyn Rees Hartwell; and his grandparents, Henry Reese, Lillian Reese, James Hartwell and Trixie Hartwell.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Hartwell of Crowley, LA; his children, Slade Hartwell and Deena Wischhusen (Bob); his grandchildren, Austin, Cameron, Christian, Abigail, Nina, Nadia, Ethan and Dean; his great great grandchild Aleya; and his sisters, Marian Ann Cannon of Lafayette, LA and Lynn Brown.
