He was predeceased by: his wife Juanita Friday Martin; his parents, A. B. Martin and Agnes Martin; his foster parents, Robert Coffey and Clopha Coffey; and his siblings, James Martin, Donnie Max Coffey and Bobbie Lee.

He is survived by: his children, James Melvin Martin (Elizabeth) of Winter Park, FL and Lauren Alicia Johnson (Joseph Brett) of Many, LA; his grandchildren, Alexis, Tiffany Martin, Joseph Evan and Alicia Johnson; and his sisters, Rebecca Smith, Wanda Robinette (David), Ellen Maxey (David) and Jeanette Martin.
