He was predeceased by: his father Anton Hillestad; his wife Dorothy Milks Hillestad; his daughter Kayleen Benson; his brothers, S. L. Warner, Cecil Hillestad, Willard Hillestad and Wilbur Hillestad; and his sons-in-law, Glynn Benson and Roy Tharp.
He is survived by: his children, Shirley Tharp and Roger Hillestad (Flo); his grandchildren, Darrin Hillestad (Robin), Dana Roshto (Bruce), Tammy Beck (Dale), Steve Hillestad (Shannon), JJ Hillestad, Eric Benson (Crystal), Monica Stuart (James), Tommy Tharp (Tami) and Carol Powell (Lynn); his great grandchildren, Josh, Charlie, Joelee, Trinity, Trey, Tori, Coal, Kade, Kylee, Ayden, Lynzee, Eric, Dallas, Reece, Aydyn, Madison of Emma, T. D., Thomas, Mallorie and Laney; and his great great grandchildren, Evan, Jase, Noah, Braxton, Maddox, Harlow Bloom, Emmalee, Easton, Karson and Elliot.
