He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herman Kynard and Loyce Ophelia Preuette Maxwell; his grandsons, James Roberts of Paul and Maxwell, Jr.; his great great grandchild Kaiston Chance Addison; his wife Lorene Sowers Maxwell; his children, Herman Paul Maxwell, Sr., Brenda Maxwell, Jo Ann Maxwell Sharpe and Sondra Maxwell Paddie; and his stepchildren, L. C. Butler, Milton Buell, Irene Smith, Veronica Karmer and Connie Anderson. He was also cherished by twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials may be made to Oak Grove Cemetery Association.
