He was predeceased by: his wife Shirlie E. Bates; his parents, Morris Vernon Bates, Sr. and Tennie Lee Dixon; his brother James Bates; his brother-in-law W. D. Cutrer; his nephew Morris Johnston; and his great-nephew Eric Johnston.
He is survived by: his daughter Elisha Faulk; his grandchildren, Chelsea Faulk and Colten Faulk; his great grandchildren, Andre O'Brien, Jr., Emma Faulk, Ian Faulk and Hayden Faulk; his sisters, Geneva Cutrer and Bonnie Collins (Donnie); and his sister-in-law Linda Bates.
