He was predeceased by: his wife Nellie Rose Bernard Charles; his parents, Morris Charles and Eva Marie Colomb Taylor; his stepson John Corey Bernard; and his siblings, Raymond Taylor, L. J. Jackson, Charles Taylor, Leroy Charles, Carrol Taylor, Phillip Charles, Joyce Leiver, Berrel Jackson, Mary Ethel Charles and Mildred Castille.
He is survived by: his sons, Edward Charles, Jr. (Showanna) of Carencro, Brian Charles, Sr. (Shantrelle) of Lafayette, Ryan Shelton of Vinton and Brandon Shelton of Vinton; his stepchildren, Mona Solomon (Virgil), Jonathan Bernard (Heather), Albert Mouton, III (Dametria), Rachelle Bernard, Brian Bernard (Charlotte) and Kendrick Bernard (Danielle); and his siblings, Howard Charles (Jollie) of Abbeville, Joseph Charles (Mary Lee) of Opelousas, Lovina Charles, Bernadine Aggison, Eva Anthony and Audrey Bellard. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; twelve step grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
