He was predeceased by: his parents, Jessie Leary and Louise Leary; his wife Fannie Mae James Leary; and his sons, Joseph Leary, Jr. and Donald Ray Leary.

He is survived by: his daughters, Kathie Sumbler (Kevin), Jean Johnson (John) and Audrey Mae Howard; and his brothers, Matthew Leary and Jessie Leary (Doris) of Bunkie. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
