He was predeceased by: his parents, Garland Cathey and Marie Thrift Cathey; and his daughter Cindy Dale Cathey. He is survived by: his daughters, Teresa Cathey LaCaze, Karen Cathey Marsalis (Lovic) and Gayla Cathey; his grandchildren, Crystal LaCaze Rabo (Bubba), Candice LaCaze, Mason Barry, Sydney Cathey, Ella Nielsen, Avoree Nielsen and Cole Marsalis; and his great grandchildren, Hayden Rabo and Kreux Woodard.
