He was predeceased by: his parents, Gaston R. Mertens and Bessie Mae Mertens; and his brother Donald "Duck" Alan Mertens. He is survived by: his children, Brandy Mertens Dauzat (Dwayne), Patricia Mertens (Justin Lee) and Zach Mertens; the mother of his children Cindy Thiels; his sister Mary Anne Mertens; his grandchildren, Blake and Zailey; his niece Kimberly McNemar (Steven); and his great-nephews, Kylan and Kaisyn. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
