He was predeceased by: his parents, John Wesley Gates and Lucille B. Gates; and his former wife Frances Watson Gates. He is survived by: his son Paul Harris Fellows; his wife Paula Weaver Gates; his children, Robert Gates, Dwayne Gates (Connie), Crystal Blackmon (Jason), Claire Shelton (Nathan) and Vangie Crosby; his grandchildren, Jason Gates (Teresa), Josh Gates, Erin Bullard Hepp (Isaac), Connor Bullard (Kristen Arnette), Dylan Blackmon (Verenice), Landon Blackmon, Gunner Blackmon and Kenna Shelton; his great grandchildren, Savannah Gates, Blakley Blackmon and Oaklynn Blackmon; and his siblings, Cecil Gates (Judy) and Benita Seymour.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Rose Neath Funeral Homes - Bossier City (2201 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA 71111). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, January 15th 2025 at the Rose-Neath Cemetery (5185 Swan Lake Rd, Bossier City, LA 71111).
