He was predeceased by: his parents, John P. Nielsen and Louise Middleton; his brother William; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry and Bruce Adams.

He is survived by: his children, John "Joel" Ellis, Borde Nielsen and Julia Gibbs (Walter); his grandchildren, Brittany Nielsen Ladner (Justin), Myra and Noah Gibbs; his great grandchild Darci Ladner; his sister Betty Catha (Edward); and his uncle Buh. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
