He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Blount and Marjorie Blount. He is survived by: his sons, Jewell, John and J. B. Blount; his siblings, Vernell, Earl Magee, Jan Blount and Mae McLain (Tracy); and his grandchildren, J. B. Blount, Janala Blount, Jewell Domieon Plummer, Aminah Quran Plummer, Malik Lamar Plummer and Quadir Ali Plummer. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

“We the family of the late Hollis J. Magee Sr. share in your lost. We will miss John he was a wonderful brothe-in-law and uncle. He was always there when we needed him the most. He kept a smile on his face and anyone who was around him he would make you laugh as well. He believed in helping people in any way he could, that's a quality that can only come from God. Yes we will miss John but we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So we thank God for lending John to us.”
