She was predeceased by: her parents, Marshall Strait and Ruth Strait; her husband Bill; her son William Robert "Bobby" Bates; her son-in-law Chet Wynn Busby; and her grandson William Bates "Billy" Colvin.
She is survived by: her daughter Gwen; her brother George Strait of Greer, SC; her daughters, Linda Kay McElveen (Buddy) of Abita Springs, Joanne Adams (Jim) of Alton, IL and Barbara Busby of Abita Springs; her grandchildren, Cherie Sheridan (Margaret), Megan Gouzy (Josh), Jamie Brantley (Rich), Charlie Colvin (Jackie) and Mary Cassidy (Ben); and her caregivers, Cassandra Magee and Chansonette "Pumpkin" Releford. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to First Baptist Church in Gwen's memory.
