He was predeceased by: his wife Katherine Marie Dowden; his parents, William Elisha Dowden and Elizabeth Murray; and his siblings, Bill Dowden, Joe Dowden and Martha Hendrick.

He is survived by: his children, Charles Richard Dowden (Diane) and Katherine Schumacher. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
