He is survived by: his friends, Fowlers and Shell; his wife Jo Ann Thompson; his children, Dr. Dale Southerland (Catherine), Michael Southerland (Denise), Brett Levert (Claire), Dr. Keith Levert (Kristin), Kim Heath (Tim), Kristen Belanger (Paul) and Carolyn Bryant (Brad); and his siblings, Debbie Plumlee and Ed Thompson. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
A wake was held on Sunday, April 6th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Rabenhorst Funeral Home (11000 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70815). Visitation was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (9150 Highland Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70810). A funeral service was held on Monday, April 7th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. From his home office (pre-COVID, no less), he bridged construction, legalese, drafting contracts with a clarity and foresight the legal teams couldn't match.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to MD Anderson.
