He was predeceased by: his parents, Marjorie Schoonmaker Smart and John I. Smart; his brother Steven M. Smart; and his father-in-law Don C. Townsend. He is survived by: his wife Donna Townsend Smart; his daughters, Hepzibah Smart, Heather Smart Valenzuela (Roberto) and Lisette Smart Guma; his grandchildren, Raphael Valenzuela, Rio Valenzuela, Sannayah Juanita Valenzuela, Lorenzo Guma and Naomi Guma; his sister Karen Smart Alwood (Jerry); his sister-in-law Carolyn Smart; his mother-in-law Linda Jackson Townsend; his brothers-in-law, Thomas Townsend (Annie), Jonathan Townsend and Crissy; and his friend Anthony Bender. He is also survived by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
