He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Hayden and Myrtle Shepherd Hayden; his uncle Roy Shepherd; his aunt Lucille Shepherd; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Harp Blackwell and Louis Wilson Cox, Jr..
He is survived by: his cousins, William "Billy" Shepherd (Glenda) and Helen Ann Shepherd Patrick; his sons, William Matthew Hayden and Benjamin Wilson Hayden (Margaret); his wife Kathy; his grandchildren, Matthew Carter Hayden, Elizabeth "Betsy" Rae Hayden and Mary; his sister-in-law Elizabeth Cox Blackwell; his nephew Patrick Cox Blackwell; his niece Margaret Harp Pruitt (John); his great-niece Laura Jane Pruitt; his great-nephew Richard Harp Pruitt; and his godson Samuel Slayden Spires (Caroline).
For those who wish, the family suggest memorials in William's honor be made to the Mer Rouge United Methodist Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
