He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Scarbrough Petersen; his parents, Jenz Petersen and Pearlie Petersen; his stepson Chris Purdion; his siblings, Margaret Arnold, Mary Koenig, Edward Petersen and Katy Petersen; and his siblings-in-law, Gayla, Arlene Petersen and Wes Koenig.
He is survived by: his children, Russell Petersen, Jr., Donald Purdion, Becky Randall (Jim) and Melissa Nugent (Royce); his grandchildren, Zayne Randall, Ava Petersen, Lance Randall, Gracie Nugent, Dillon Lejeunene, Renesmee Harris and Vivian Harris; and his brothers, Jessie and Julius Petersen.
