He was predeceased by: his parents, Murphy Matthews, Sr. and Virginia Shields; and his siblings, Irene and James Tibbs. He is survived by: his son Harold John Shields, Jr. (Kassandra Talbot-Shields) of Pescadero, CA; his siblings, Elwood Shields of Lafayette, Winston Shields of New Orleans, Raymond Shields of Baldwin and Diane Shields Simon of Beaumont, TX; and his uncles, Joe Shields and Willie Narcisse. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
