She was predeceased by: her husband Mansel Spencer Slaughter, Sr; her parents, Alex Cobb McKowen and Henrietta Griffith McKowen; and her siblings, Beryl McKowen Morris, Alex Cobb McKowen Jr. and Henry Griffith McKowen.

She is survived by: her children, Mansel Jr. (Phil Slaughter), Susan (Joe Pete Maryman), Carolyn (Bill Gaines), Dorothy (Kenny Granger) and James (Pam Slaughter); and her brother Johnny McKowen (Marilyn) of Jackson. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
