He was predeceased by: his wife Bernice Knott Tate; his son Ronald Joseph Tate; his son-in-law Kendall Dressel; his parents, Simon Tate and Leola Stelly Tate; and his brothers, Ira Tate, Leroy Tate, John Tate and Allen Tate.

He is survived by: his daughter Priscilla Tate Dressel; his grandchildren, Lori Marks Granger (Doug), Annie Marks Viator (Hank) and Adam Marks; his great grandchildren, Corbin Thibodeaux, Andrew Marks, Hailey Viator, Heidi Viator and Logan Granger; and his siblings, Louella Knott, Bertha Wilks (John), J. L. Tate and Nelson Joseph Tate (Randie).
