She was predeceased by: her husband Carey Smith; her parents, Willie Johnson and Estelle Johnson; and her siblings, Sally Eppinette, Cloverdale Eppinette, Jackie King, Minnie Jo Rodman, W. O. Johnson, William "Buddy" Johnson and Virgil Johnson.
She is survived by: her children, Carey Ellis Smith (Jean), Janice White (Bob), Sammy Smith (Sharon), Cathy Reeder (Larry), Frank Smith (Sherry) and Jay Smith (Loretta). She is also survived by grandchildren, and 13-great-great grandchildren; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
