He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Washington Smith and Velma Ophelia Smith; and his siblings, Julius Smith, Elaine Smith-Cooper and Tommy Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Laurie J. Crenshaw Smith; and his children, Dr. Angela Jones (D.), John Hall, Kevin Hall, Jeremy Long, Dr. Shannon Smith (David) and Melody Grimes (Christopher). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
