He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira B. Spears and Ora Ester Watson Spears; and his siblings, Delbert, Homer, Stanley, Willis Spears, Beulah Denham and Norma Jean Taylor.
He is survived by: his wife Linda K. Williams Spears; his children, Tonya Lamb (Rodney) of Fairfield, OH and Lester Derwin Spears; his grandchildren, A. J. Lamb, Alissa Finks (Andy) and Ashley Spears; and his siblings, Lewis Spears of Somerset, Tom Spears of Somerset, Freeda Wesley of North Vernon, IN., Stella Walker of North Vernon, IN. and Mary Lou Arnett of North Vernon, IN..
