He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Allen Vanmeter and Martha Jane Hanley VanMeter; his wife Kathleen VanMeter; his son-in-law Dwight Cummings; his son Barry Sloss; his granddaughter Abby Cummings; and his siblings, Francis West, Mae Logsdon, Grace Alford, Myrtle Beals, Mildred Vance, Mary Bennett, Sue Piltcher and Henry Edward "Bill" VanMeter.
He is survived by: his daughter Betty Jean Cummings of Woodburn; his close friend Sue Denning; his grandchildren, Amy Cummings of Hawaii, Dustin Cummings (Hazel) of Costa Rica, Ember Naparstek (Mark) and Stacey Sloss; his great grandchildren, Emerson, Shawn Ashlyn, Zander, Mattias and Astrid; and his daughter-in-law Bonnie Sloss.
