He was predeceased by: his son Jeremy Elam; his parents, R. C. Elam and Mary Elva Elam (Yates); and his brothers, Thomas H. Elam and James E. Elam.

He is survived by: his siblings, Frances Davis of Mayfield, KY, Linda Ernestine Steele of Mayfield, KY and Robert H. Elam of Fulton, KY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
