He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Author and Pearl Pope Gibson. He is survived by: his wife Janice Miller Gibson; his children, Sandra Owens, Peggy Gibson, Paula Estes (Dewey) and William Miller Gibson; his grandchildren, James Lewis Hall (Tiffany), Jeffrey Delin Overton (Sarah), Johnathan Estes (Micci) and Jesse Gibson (Kelly); his great grandchildren, Nathan Hoskins, Layla Hall, Ethan Overton, Isabella and Claire Estes; and his sister Betty Berryman. He is also survived by several extended family members and friends.
