He was predeceased by: his parents, Kermit Sergent and Ruby Sergent; and his siblings, Delmar Sergent, Flora Nantz, Pearly Nantz and Evelin Cooper.

He is survived by: his sons, Shon Sergent (Angie) and Dr. Choe Sergent (Amanda); his close friend Terry Hudson; his grandchildren, Jon, Jocelyn, Mariela, Solomon and Joel Sergent; and his sister Parcilla Douglas (Lance).
