He was predeceased by: his father Frank Thornton; his wife Margaret Rountree Thornton; and his siblings, Mildred Jones (Joe Jones), Bill Thornton, Joe Thornton (Margaret) and Edgar Thornton (Clara).
He is survived by: his daughter Deita Morgan (Joe) of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, Jason Morgan (Lindsey) of Williamsburg and Carla Goins (Nick) of Corbin; his great grandchildren, Aeriella, Leonidas, Sadie, Tucker, Abby, Maddox and Trent; his sister Lola Shelley (Clifford) of Williamsburg; and his close friend Bessie Smith of Williamsburg.
