He was predeceased by: his father Mahlon Hampton; his wife Ellen Bentley Hampton; his daughter Carol Johnson; his stepson Paul Fleming; his siblings, Basil Hampton, Hassel Hampton, Cassel Hampton, Elmer Hampton, Edgar Hampton, Lottie Tackett, Lettie Pugh, Hettie Hampton and Stella Rowe; and his grandson Brian Tavis Johnson.
He is survived by: his children, Russell Hampton Jr. (Kim), Glenda Compton of Virgie and Linda Mullins (Narvel); his stepchildren, Terry Thacker (Gustina) of Lawrenceburg, Linda Newsome (Vester) and Darlene MaKenzieof Pikeville (Jack); and his brother Lonnie Hampton of Long Fork. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.
