He was predeceased by: his parents, Sterling Prater and Stella Miller; his brothers, Tommy Carroll and Sterling Prater Jr.; and his brother-in-law Jerry T. Miles.
He is survived by: his wife Tammy Newsome Prater; his children, Kristopher Kernie Prater of Virgie and Krystal Lynn; his son-in-law Jamie Goldfarb of Vero Beach, FL; his siblings, Charles W. Prater of Roanoke, IN, Thurman Carroll of Avilla, IN, Glenda Ungerbuhler of Fairfield, OH, Linda Simmons of Cleveland, TN, Ida Adkins of Cincinnati, OH, Virgie Mosley of Florence, KY, Zelda Anne Miles of Mt. Juliet, TN and Rosie Skeens of Feds Creek; and his grandchildren, Kernie Weston Prater and Jameson Edward Goldfarb.
