He was predeceased by: his father William James Dotson; and his stepfather Anthony Jackson Damron. He is survived by: his wife Louise Roberts Dotson; his children, Bridget Newsom (Tony) of Sevierville and John Ross "J. R." Dotson of Sevierville; his brothers, James Dotson (Dawn) of Indian Creek, Bradley Dotson (Linda) of Robinson Creek and Bobby Dotson (Wilma) of Jack's Creek; his grandsons, Gage and Gavin Newsom; and his half-sister Billie Smith (Jason) of Grove City.
