He was predeceased by: his father Robert Newton; and his son David Newton. He is survived by: his wife Nila Miller Newton; his children, Jennifer Newton Goforth, Mary Newton Clark and Mark Newton (Stacey); his brothers, Harold Newton (Nancy), Bobby Newton (Teresa) and Leon Newton; and his grandchildren, Missy Brown of Matthew Newton, R. C, Jared Clark, Rebecca Goforth, Michael Newton and Nathan Goforth. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
