He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lay and Venice Lay; and his brothers, Dennis and Bill. He is survived by: his wife Jeanne; and his children, Kim Sommerkamp (Jim), Tony, Jesse (Charlette), Mike (Melissa) and Joe (Lisa). He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
