He was predeceased by: his parents, Bentley Shepherd and Mary Smith Shepherd Cornett; and his children, Jamie Shepherd and Linda Bailey Shepherd. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ann Ballard Shepherd; his children, Jennifer Newbury (Steven) of Charleston, SC and Timothy Shepherd (Olga) of Corbin, KY; his grandchildren, Bryan Sergent (Renee) of Wiley, TX, Teresa Turner (Carlos) of Totz, KY and Charles Sergent (Holly) of Yadkinville, NC; his siblings, Vicky Wells (Justin) of Totz, KY, Enoch Shepherd (Darlene) of Winchester, KY and Virgil Shepherd (Lynn) of Radford, VA; his grandchildren, Jackson, Emily, Julia, LindaGrace, Connor and Joshua; and his brother Central Baptist Church.
