He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Smith and Virginia Bailey Thompson; and his son Darryl P. Hemphill. He is survived by: his wife Joy Day Thompson of Taylorsville; his sons, Stanley L. Thompson II of Jacksonville, Bobby E. Thompson of Jacksonville and Erin L. Thompson (Maria) of Stafford Virgina; and his grandchildren, Rachel, Brock, Oliver and Aria. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
