He is survived by: his wife Sunny Day-Coots; his children, Megan Coots Broemmer (Chip) of Springfield, Missouri, Kelly Coots Dorman (Rachael) of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Robert M. Coots Jr. of Taylorsville, Kentucky, Samuel Taylor Coots (Kelsey) of Louisville, Kentucky, John Wilson Coots of Louisville, Kentucky, Katie Coots Drake (Jeremy) of Taylorsville and Andrew Coots (Liz) of Frankfort, Kentucky.; and his grandchildren, Claire Broemmer, Evonda Gibson, Ashley McKinney, Heather Dorman, Lonnie Morgan, Dewayne Dorman, Jack Dorman, Olivia Dorman, Ellie Coots, Sophie Coots, Grayson Drake, Anna Drake and Morgan Drake.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions to the Spencer County Educational Foundation, St Jude's Children's Research Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.

“I'm so sorry to hear of Mr.Coots passing.He was very helpful with some of my legal problems and he was such a nice man.I had planned to attend visitation when I realized, too late ,that today was the day of the funeral . Since I no longer work ,I often get days confused.I was planning to stop by tomorrow.I'd like to send my love to Kelly.I always asked her dad about her.He assured me she was doing well.I know he will be missed so much by all of you and by our community.”
