Bobby Akers Obituary
Bobby E. Akers, 79 of Stoney Fork, Kentucky passed away at his home on Thursday, September 21, 2023. Bobby was born on April 3, 1944, to the late Otis and Merlie Wilson Akers. He spent the majority of his career, starting as a young man, working in the local coal industry. He loved to buy, sell, and trade and if we were able to talk to him today, he would probably ask if we had "bumped" his listings. He loved to spend his summers on Norris Lake, to cook (and especially eat) any chance he got, and to have a good laugh wherever he went. If there was anything he took great pride in, it was his children and grandchildren and he never let a day pass without reminding them. If you were lucky enough to know Bobby, you know his love for life and people is a legacy of its own. He never met a stranger and that is evident by the outpouring of love and sharing of memories since his passing.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar, Rollin, Billy Ray, and Charlie Akers.
Bobby is survived by his children, Starlynn Cunningham and husband, Michael, of New Tazewell, Tennessee, Peggy Ellison and husband, Timothy, of Ewing, Virginia, and Merlie Akers Lane and husband, Clifford, of Middlesboro, Kentucky; grandchildren, James Partin and wife, Tiffany, Timothy Ellison, Michael Partin and wife, Katherine, Sylvia Ellison, Heather Ellison, Dalton Ellison, Xena Ellison, Shawn Cunningham, Bailey Daniels, Dixie Daniels, Amaya Lane, and Benjamin Lane; great-grandchildren, Chance, Alana, Sophia, Jamison, Myah, Xander, Olivia, Cody, Remington, John, Amari, Winter, and Wyatt; sisters, Carrie Fisher and Carolyn Messer and husband, David; and other family members and friends, too numerous to name.
Funeral services will be at 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Pastor David King presiding.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 PM until the funeral hour at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to serve the Akers Family. Light a candle of remembrance and sign the guest register at http://www.arnettsteele.com.
